    In European classical music classical music , arioso is a style of Solo music solo opera singing between recitative and aria . Literally, arioso means airy . The term arose in the 16th century along with the aforementioned styles and monody . It is commonly confused with Recitative recitativo accompagnato . Arioso is similar to recitative due to its unrestrained structure and inflexions, close to those of speech. It differs however in its rhythm . Arioso is similar to aria in its melodic form, both being closer to singing than recitative however they differ in Musical form form , arioso generally not resorting to the process of repetition. At the start of the finale in the first act of Mozart s The Magic Flute , the andante of the priest Sprecher Sobald dich f hrt der Freundschaft Hand ins Heiligtum zum ew gen Band is an example of arioso. Amor ti vieta , sung by Loris at Umberto Giordano Giordano s Fedora opera Fedora could be a modern arioso example.     Not to be confused with Stravinsky s Violin Concerto Stravinsky Violin Concerto in D Igor Stravinsky s Concerto in D Basle for string orchestra was composed in Hollywood between the beginning of 1946 and 8 August of the same year in response to a 1946 commission from Paul Sacher to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Basel Chamber Orchestra Basler Kammerorchester, BKO , and for this reason is sometimes referred to as the Basle Concerto. It was premiered on January 27, 1947 in Basel by the Basel Chamber Orchestra conducted by Paul Sacher White 1979, 438 . The Concerto in D was the first composition Stravinsky created after becoming a naturalised American citizen on 28 December 1945, and was also the first of his works to be published under the contract with his new publisher, Boosey & Hawkes White 1979, 123 25 . The concerto has been choreographed several times as a ballet , first by Dore Hoyer at the Hamburg State Opera in 1950.     Gary Schocker born October 18, 1959 is a flutist , composer , and piano pianist who has performed with the New York Philharmonic , the Philadelphia Orchestra , the New Jersey Symphony, the Dallas Symphony , the West German Sinfonia, and I Solisti Italiani among others. He won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1985. Mr. Schocker has composed sonatas for piano , oboe , bassoon , clarinet , French Horn horn , and two pianos, as well as works for flute , many songs, theatrical works, and children s musicals and lives in New York. James Galway premiered Mr. Schocker s three movement concerto Green Places at Ireland s Adair Festival and has also performed this work with the New Jersey Symphony. His musical entitled Far From The Madding Crowd , written with Barbara Campbell, received its world premiere in New Zealand in the Fall of 2000. He is the most published living composer of flute music with over 150 works in print. Mr. Schocker s music is primarily published by the Theodore Presser Company .     Ihr werdet weinen und heulen BWV 103 is a sacred Bach cantata cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach , composed for Jubilate the third Sunday after Easter in 1725. The work, to a text by German poetess Christiana Mariana von Ziegler 1695 1760 , is scored for bass, tenor and alto soloists, plus choir and trumpet, descant recorder in D sixth flute , two oboe d amore , strings, and basso Figured bass Basso continuo continuo . It begins in B minor , but in the fourth of its six movements shifts to the relative major key of D major , illustrating the theme of consolation in Ziegler s text. The first movement is a six minute choral fugue , with an arioso passage for the bass voice just over halfway through. The second is a secco recitative for tenor, concluding in an arioso section. The third movement is an aria for alto, violin, piccolo and continuo. The fourth movement is another recitative, also for alto, while the fifth is a tenor aria accompanied by the orchestra and a prominent trumpet part. The sixth movement is the concluding chorale.
