    The Architectural League of New York is a non profit organization for creative and intellectual work in architecture , urbanism , and related disciplines . The league dates from 1881, when Cass Gilbert organized meetings at the Salmagundi Club for young architects. In early years, members took turns assigning sketch problems with solutions then critiqued by established architects. In 1886 it was restarted by architect Russell Sturgis with exhibitions, lectures, dinners, tours, and Juried competition juried annual exhibitions. During its history, many of New York s most prominent architects have served as president, including George B. Post , Henry Hardenbergh , Grosvenor Atterbury , Raymond Hood , Ralph Thomas Walker Ralph Walker , Wallace Harrison , and more recently, Ulrich Franzen , Robert A.M. Stern , Frances Halsband , Paul Byard , Walter Chatham , and Frank Lupo architect Frank Lupo . The league embraces collaboration across the arts. Muralists and sculptors are invited to become members, and annual exhibitions have included sections for landscape architecture , painting, sculpture, and decorative arts. The organization had two primary objectives to influence the professional production of the best plays by alerting members to performances that warranted their support and to ensure the continuity of professional theater by education the audiences of the future. Each NYCBL team plays an eight week, 44 game schedule from June to July with a playoff in early August. Several players from this league have become Major Leaguers. 2011 season There are 12 teams separated into two divisions, scheduled to play during the 2011 season. This season runs from June 7 July 28, followed by the post season from July 30 August 3rd. The Oneonta Outlaws are the 2011 champions, after beating the Webster Yankees 5 1 in Game 1 and 5 1 in Game 2 in a best of 3 series. It was the Outlaws first Championship since coming to Oneonta in 2010. As of September 2011 the Rome Thunderbolts have ceased operations.
