The Arabidopsis thaliana Arabidopsis Biological Resource Center ABRC was established at The Ohio State University in September, 1991. Primary support for the ABRC is provided by a National Science Foundation grant. The mission of the ABRC is to acquire, preserve and distribute seed and DNA resources that are useful to the Arabidopsis research community. New seed and DNA enter ABRC through donation by national and international researchers. An identifying number is assigned to each stock. The stock is then evaluated, documented and made available for distribution. The preservation of seed and DNA stocks is conducted according to strict, defined protocols. Backups of stocks are maintained to ensure preservation. The ABRC s holdings and stock distribution rates have increased rapidly so that presently hundreds of thousands of stocks are available. More than 100,000 stocks are shipped annually to researchers in more than 60 countries, and modest fees for stocks are charged. The ABRC database functions and ordering system are incorporated into The Arabidopsis Information Resource , TAIR . Researchers can obtain information about Arabidopsis, perform stock searches, order stocks, and view current and past orders. They welcome new seed and DNA stock donations at any time. infobox software name Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre logo Image NASC logo.png website http www.arabidopsis.info The Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre NASC provides seed and information resources to the International Arabidopsis Genome Project and the wider research community. It is based in the School of Biosciences at the University of Nottingham s Sutton Bonington Campus , in the English county of Nottinghamshire . It holds more than 300,000 different stocks of seed representing over half a million genotypes and provides a Bioinformatics and Genechip service. It is one of only two Arabidopsis thaliana stock centres worldwide. Whenever a new mutant or lineage evolution line of Arabidopsis thaliana is created, scientists donate samples to NASC where they are maintained and thus are made available to scientists worldwide. It was established in April 1991 as part of the Plant Molecular Biology initiative of the Agricultural and Food Research Council AFRC . The Centre is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council BBSRC . The Stock Centre was founded by Dr Bernard Mulligan Directed from 1991 to 1999 by Dr Mary Anderson and from 1999 present by Prof. Sean May. NASC s activities are coordinated with those of the Arabidopsis Biological Resource Center, ABRC based at Ohio State University , USA and managed by Dr. Randy Scholl retiring in 2009 . This facilitates a unified and efficient service for the research community. The stock centres have a distribution agreement. NASC distributes to Europe and ABRC distributes to the Americas . Laboratories in other locations may establish their primary affiliation with either centre. Technical date March 2010 2 Carboxy D arabinitol 1 phosphate phosphatase CA1Pase is an enzyme that inactivates the RuBisCO inhibitor 2 carbocy D arabinitol 1 phosphate CA1P . When light levels are high, the inactivation occurs after CA1P has been released from RuBisCO by RuBisCO activase . As CA1P is present in many but not all plants, CA1P mediated regulation of RuBisCO is not universal for all photosynthetic life. Amino acid sequences of the CA1Pase enzymes from wheat, French bean, tobacco, and Arabidopsis thaliana Arabidopsis reveal that the enzymes contain 2 different domains, indicating that it is a multifunctional enzyme . CA1Pase enzyme activity varies between different species due to their regulation by different redox active compounds, such as glutathione . However, it is yet to be determined whether this process occurs in vivo . Wheat CA1Pase heterologously expressed in E. coli is also able to dephosphorylate the RuBisCO inhibitor D glycero 2,3 diulose 1,5 bisphosphate. ref Andralojc, J., P. Madgwick, et al. 2006 .
