Barachois Brook is a Canada Canadian community in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador . It is on the western coast of the province, on St. George s Bay Newfoundland and Labrador Bay St. George , located 3 miles south of Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland and Labrador Stephenville Crossing . The post office was established there in 1963. The first Postmaster was Churchill J. Messervey. It has a population of roughly 400 people as of 2011 A Royal Canadian Mounted Police office is located in the community where police still use the facility for under the influence offenders in which they have overnight stays when the office in Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador has no room. Unreferenced date December 2009 Distinguish Baker Brook, New Brunswick Bakers Brook is a Canada Canadian fishing settlement on Bonne Bay in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador . It is located north of Woody Point, Newfoundland and Labrador Woody Point . It had a population of 6 in 1911. It is located on a stretch of coastline that is bordered by a stony beach and a long shoal bank. In 1901 there was one lobster factory with a total of four seasonal employees. Cod was also caught. By 1911 there were two families that operated two lobster factories. When the census was completed in 1921 the population of Baker s Brook had risen to sixteen people. In 1929 there were only two houses, in 1939 the first one room school was founded with Joe Ollerhead as the teacher. The peak population of 45 residents was reached in 1956, with inhabitants relying on fishing , Trapping Animal trapping and forestry . In 1973 the Federal Provincial Agreement provided for the establishment of Gros Morne National Park which included the community of Baker s Brook. As it was within the boundaries of the park it was designated a park community . As a result of this policy the population declined to 30 in 1976 and by 1980 there were no remaining residents. By this time Joe Kennedy reported in that year that Baker s Brook was merely used for summer fishing. In 1981 Baker s Brook was turned into a picnic area in Gros Morne National Park. Labrador West 2006 pop. 8,979 refers to a region in western Labrador in the Canada Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador containing the twin towns of Labrador City and Wabush . The area is located in the southwest corner of Labrador, near the Quebec border and has been described as a dichotomy of pristine wilderness and industrial development. The region s livelihood is based on iron ore mining which can be traced to the 1950s when the Iron Ore Company of Canada constructed Labrador City and the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway to haul ore to the port of Sept les, Quebec , 575 km to the south. The adjacent Wabush Mines were established in the 1960s by another company, along with the town of Wabush and the Wabush Lake Railway which connects to the QNSL. Labrador West is also home to tremendous wilderness opportunities in a pristine state with little human settlement or development.
