Biography A long striding Winger sport winger , Landers played with the Sydney Roosters Eastern Suburbs club from 1959 1965 and played in the Sydney Roosters Roosters 1960 grand final loss to St George Dragons St George . A former student of Sydney s St Josephs college, Landers headed the New South Wales Rugby League NSWRL s point scoring lists in the 1960 and 1961 seasons. In 1959, Landers first season at the Eastern Suburbs club, he was selected to represent NSW . After leaving Sydney Roosters Easts at the end of the 1965 season Landers joined England English club Leeds before returning to Australia where he played with Penrith in their first season in the NSWRL. Landers has recently been named as a winger in Penrith s Greatest Team since its inception in 1967. While playing football, Landers also served in the New South Wales Police Force and in 2008, rugby league s centennial year in Australia, he was named on the wing in a NSW Police team of the century. Landers died in 1996. From Azle, Texas , Landers took up golf at the relatively late age of 28. Despite an unorthodox swing, a preference for playing in sneakers instead of golf shoes, and using golf clubs that he assembled himself, Landers became a popular figure by making the Senior PGA Tour now called the Champions Tour after receiving his card at qualifying school , and was followed by fans who called themselves the Moo Crew. He played on the tour in 1995 and 1996. His best finish was a T 14 at the 1996 Kroger Senior Classic . Befitting his image, Landers was sponsored by the workclothes manufacturer Dickies . Biography Born Louis Friedlander in New York City , he began his movie career as an actor. In 1914 he appeared in two features, D. W. Griffith s The Escape 1914 film The Escape and the comedy short Admission Two Pins , opposite Glen White , under his birth name. He began making films in the 1930s, one of his first being the Boris Karloff Bela Lugosi thriller The Raven 1935 film The Raven 1935 . After directing a few more features, he changed his name to Lew Landers and went on to direct more than 100 films in a variety of genres, including Western genre westerns , Comedy film comedy and horror film s. He worked for every major film studio and many minor ones during his career.
