    about the Hong Kong Painter Michael Andrew Law the British politician Bonar Law Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Andrew Law 1749 1821 was an American composer , preacher and singing teacher. He was born in Milford, Connecticut . Law wrote mostly simple hymn tune s, and arranged tunes of other composers. His works include Select Harmony 1778 and a Collection of Best Tunes and Anthems 1779 . He was among the first American composers to put the melody in the soprano instead of the tenor part, and was also one of the first Americans to write about music. Andrew Law also pioneered the FASOLA system of musical notation that simplified lessons in reading music during the Singing School era of New England music. He published Essays on Music in 1814. Constructed in 1875, the house is an example of eclecticism in architecture architectural styles. Landrum combined the then popular Italianate architecture Italianate and Carpenter Gothic styles he found in pattern books, as seen in the corner Quoin architecture quoin s, the Italianate porch with scroll bracket architecture bracket s, gable s with cross bracing and the cruciform interior plan. The two story wooden residence was built on a T shaped plan which exhibits crossed, steeply gabled rooflines which are punctuated by a brick chimney and sheathed in wooden Roof shingle shingles . It is said locally that the Landrum House was one of the few buildings in Santa Clara whose chimney did not crumble in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake .
