It welcomes all composers as either associate or full members. Members originally dubbed their group The AmericanSociety of Music Arrangers ASMA , the predecessor to ASMAC. With eight studios hiring orchestras at the time of their creation, one of the group s first goals was to be fully employed. Another one of their early goals was to get royalties for their orchestrations, a goal that has still not been achieved in the year 2008. Other areas, where they have had more success, include screen credit, better working conditions, improved union scales, even parking privileges, and anything they could think of to improve their lot. Robert Russell Bennett was ASMA s first president. The Norwegian Society of Composers was founded in 1917. The Society s main objectives are to promote its members music and secure their rights. Previously restricted to people under 36, the constitution was amended in 2007 to also allow people young to publishing to join. The SYP is currently composed of two committees, which run events in London and Oxford . However, the SYP is looking to open up further branches in the UK, and is examining whether its model could be adopted in other countries. The SYP publishes the magazine InPrint approximately 5 times a year, and holds monthly speaker meetings and other social events. The SYP holds an annual Meeting conference , which the London and Oxford committees take turns to organise. The AmericanComposers Alliance is an United States American membership organization dedicated to the publishing and promoting of American contemporary classical music . Founded in 1937 by Aaron Copland , Milton Adolphus and others, it is the oldest national organization of its kind, and represents over 200 member composers. The organization is based in Manhattan , New York City , New York . Each year since 1951 it has presented the Laurel Leaf Award individuals and organizations in recognition of distinguished achievement in fostering and encouraging American music. The AmericanComposers Alliance publishes musical scores under the imprint AmericanComposers Edition ACE . The AmericanComposers Orchestra ACO is an American orchestra based in New York City . It is the only orchestra in the world dedicated solely to the creation, performance, preservation, and promulgation of music by Americancomposers. Through its concerts at Carnegie Hall and other venues, recordings, radio broadcasts, educational programs, New Music Readings and commissions, ACO identifies today s brightest emerging composers, champions prominent established composers as well as those lesser known, and increases regional, national and international awareness of the infinite variety of American orchestral music, reflecting geographic, stylistic, and temporal diversity.
