  1. Russian National Standards

Mergeto GOST date September 2009 Essay like date November 2008 Russian national technical standards are developed under the auspices of the Russia s Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology Gosstandart Rossii Rostekhregulirovaniye . When a national standard is approved by a technical committee, it is assigned an acronym GOST R and a numeric designator, consisting of a serial number and a year the standard becomes effective. GOST R lang ru is an acronym for lang ru gosudarstvennyy standart Rossii , which means state standard of Russia . Historically, GOST R standards were created as a subset of the GOST GOST standards originally developed by the government of the Soviet Union and later adopted by the Commonwealth of Independent States CIS . This creates confusion among standards users who often refer to GOST GOST standards as national standards of the Russian Federation. This however is a common misconception since the GOST GOST standards are the official standards of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification Euro Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification , which is a regional standards organization headquartered in Minsk , the Republic of Belarus . Since Russia is the largest and most active contributor to the CIS standardization program, in many instances Russian standards are taken forward to the CIS, where they are adopted in whole or in part as regional standards. Thus, when adopted by the national standards bodies of the CIS member states, the GOST GOST standards are used across all CIS countries, including Russia. GOST R standards are implemented, unlike their regional cousins, at the national level within the Russian Federation only where they are de jure national standards. There are currently over three thousand active GOST R standards. This article is about the national standards of the Republic of China based in Taiwan . See also Guobiao for the National Standards of the People s Republic of China . The national standard s of the Republic of China administering Taiwan , Pescadores , Quemoy and Matsu Islands Matsu are titled the Chinese National Standards CNS . They are administered by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. These standards are divided into 26 numbered categories. Applying the National Standards is voluntary unless authorities in charge cite any parts of the standards as laws and regulations. By the end of 2003, more than 15000 national standards have been issued. Although the Republic of China was removed in 1950 from the International Organization for Standardization ISO for failure to pay membership dues accordingly, there are still many National Standards translated from ISO standards into Chinese. A few standards also have English versions, but in case of any divergence of interpretation, the Chinese text shall prevail. Because the Republic of China and the People s Republic of China can both be abbreviated as China , the Chinese National Standards may also literally mean the Guobiao National Standards of the People s Republic of China . However, the Republic of China has no plan to change the name Chinese National Standards yet. Confusions may arise in Chinese language .
