The Agri HorticulturalSociety of India was founded in 1820 by William Carey missionary William Carey on the Alipore Road, Kolkata . It has a flower garden , greenhouse s, a research laboratory and a library . It houses a massive collection of flora plants and flowers . It has a significant collection of botanical varieties, including Canna plant Cannas for which it has a long and distinguished tradition, with facilities for gardeners and plant flower lovers. Courses on gardening and cultivation of certain species are offered to the general public from time to time. A large variety of ferns and medicinal plants are grown in the Society s gardens. Thousands of fruits and flowers are grown and may also be bought at the nursery. It organizes annual flower shows in winter and imparts training in horticulture which is a major seasonal attraction. In 1894 Mr Percy Lancaster was appointed Secretary to the Society, and founded the famous Alipore Canna plant Canna Collection. The Society for American Music is a non profit scholarly and educational organization incorporated in the District of Columbia as a 501 c 3 and is a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies. It is based at the Stephen Foster Memorial on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . Mission The mission of The Society for American Music is to stimulate the appreciation, performance, creation, and study of American music in all its diversity. America is understood to embrace both American, including North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean, as well as aspects of these cultures everywhere in the world. Conferences The Society holds an annual conference, usually in March, featuring scholarly talks, exhibits, and performances. Publications In 2007, the Society began publishing its own journal, the Journal of the Society for American Music JSAM . From 1983 through 2006, the Society had published the journal American Music in collaboration with the University of Illinois Press.
