    Baptist The Christian Unity Baptist Association was organized September 27 September 28, 1935 at Zion Hill Church in Ashe County, North Carolina , by six Baptist congregations. Some of these churches were remnants of the Macedonia Baptist Association , which existed for a short time in the first quarter of the 20th century. These churches had a mixed Missionary Baptist and Primitive Baptist background. Leaders in this new organization included Frank Sturgill, F. Carl Sturgill, and Nancy Owens. Though the Christian Unity Association shared much in common with fellow mountain Baptists, they differed from the majority of them in three important points 1 falling from grace 2 open communion and 3 women preachers. Two women preached at the organizational meeting. The Christian Unity Baptist Association is defunct. This body divided in 1969, and the majority chose to affiliate with the Separate Baptists in Christ General Association of Separate Baptists . The minority represented continuity with the original constitution and articles of faith. The two surviving churches from that fellowship Zion Hill & Hooks Branch in Va. , with a combined membership of about 50, no longer hold an associational structure. At a meeting called by Oak Ridge Pastor ,Rev.George B. Harris, messagers from eighteen Baptist churches came from four southeastern states on June 13, 1995. The Messagers discussed the future of the Southern Baptist Convention and by resolution declared their independence due to theological differences. The states included where Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. The change in allegiance was not felt by the Southern Baptist for many of the churches were from the Missionary Baptist and independent Baptist churches. The CBA of the Southeast bases more time and resources on the mission at home in America rather than to vest the resources on international missions. NTBA is currently headquartered in Lewisville, Texas on the campus of Lakeland Baptist Church Lewisville, Texas Lakeland Baptist Church , and is formally aligned with SBC and SBTC. As of March 2010 NBTA has approx. 90 affiliated churches. NTBA currently supports eight mission churches in the DFW area and one in Wisconsin, ongoing mission projects in Mexico and Germany, a pastoral scholarship fund at Criswell College , and a local crisis pregnancy center in Lewisville. NTBA is focused on missions activity its president , Ed Ethridge, holds the title of Director of Missions .     Baptist History The first organization of Conservative Baptists was the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society CBFMS , now called WorldVenture , formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1943. The Conservative Baptist Association of America was organized in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1947. The Association operates under the name CBAmerica . The Conservative Baptist Association emerged as part of the continuing Fundamentalist Modernist Controversy within the American Baptist Convention Northern Baptist Convention . The forming churches were fundamental conservative churches that had remained in cooperation with the Northern Baptist Convention after other churches had left, such as those that formed the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches . At the 1946 NBC meeting, the old convention made it clear that it would not allow a competing missionary agency to operate within it. Churches withdrew, forming the new association, and hundreds of others withdrew in the following years.
