Morgan became interested in jazz as a teenager during World War II, and Charlie Parker became a significant influence on him in the late 1940s. Morgan began to write on jazz from the early 1950 for Melody Maker , Jazz Journal , Jazz Monthly and Gramophone and for 20 years from 1969 a weekly jazz column in a local Kent newspaper . Over his writing career he completed liner notes for over 2,500 albums, initially for Vogue Records . From 1954 he contributed to music programmes on BBC radio. He is the author of an influential book on modern jazz in England and co author of several books on jazz records. He has lectured on jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music in London. In addition, until 1991 he was a full time architect. Owen was born in Menai Bridge , Wales , but grew up in the England English city of Liverpool , where his family moved when he was eight years old. After a short career with the British Merchant Navy Merchant Navy , for two years Owen worked down a coal mine as a Bevin Boys Bevin Boy , before moving into repertory theatre as an assistant stage manager. From there he moved into acting, first with the Birmingham Repertory Company and then various other companies, appearing in small roles in films and to a greater degree in the newer medium of television during the 1950s. By the late 1950s, however, Owen was beginning to realise that his real ambitions lay in writing rather than performing, and he began to submit scripts to BBC Radio . His first full length play, Progress to the Park , was produced by the Theatre Royal, Stratford East following its radio debut, and later in the West End theatre West End .     The Alun School is a large secondary school serving the community of Mold, Flintshire , North Wales , and its surrounding villages. It is part of the Flintshire LEA . It was formed in 1970 as a result of the merger of the Alun Grammar School and the Daniel Owen Secondary Modern School. Some of the school s present buildings Daniel Owen Building date from 1938, the remainder being opened on the formation of the current comprehensive or built in the years since. In 1989 the roll stood at 1432, and in 1999 it was 1548. In January 2010 there were 1762 students with over 550 students in the Sixth Form and over 120 teachers. The main school is over subscribed and the Sixth Form is the biggest Sixth Form in Wales and one of the biggest in the UK. The most recent inspection of the school took place in March 2010 when it received the top grade Grade 1 in all seven of the inspection categories.     Alun Morgun Richards October 27, 1929&ndash June 2, 2004 was a Wales Welsh novel ist, best known for his novel Ennal s Point , about the work of a Lifeboat rescue lifeboat crew in South Wales. Richards was born in King Edward Avenue, Caerphilly . After training to be a teacher Richards joined the Royal Navy which sparked a fascination with the sea that inspired much of his writing. In 1955 he returned to Wales from London but became ill with tuberculosis and was admitted to the sanatorium at Talgarth . After two years he was released and married Helen Howden, a probation officer , with whom he had three sons and a daughter. He taught English for 10 years and settled in Mumbles , Swansea , which provided the backdrop for much of his writing. As well as novels and short stories, he wrote extensively for television and theatre . A connoisseur of rugby union , Richards published A Touch of Glory to mark the centenary of the Welsh Rugby Union in 1980 and a memoir of Carwyn James in 1984. After suffering a heart attack he died in Singleton Hospital, Swansea , on June 2, 2004.
