In Greek mythology , Pandion II was son and heir of Cecrops II , King of Athens . and his wife Metiadusa . He was exiled from Athens, Greece Athens by the sons of his uncle Metion who sought to put Metion on the throne. Pandion fled to Megara where he married Pylia , daughter of King Pylas . Later, Pylas went into voluntary exile to Messenia , because he had killed his uncle, Bias. Pylas then arranged for his son in law to be king of Megara . Pylia bore him four sons, he became father of Aegeus , Pallas son of Pandion Pallas , Nisos and Lycus Lykos . When Pandion died at Megara, Nisos succeeded him as king. He had a hero shrine at Megara at the Bluff of Athene the Diver bird. After this death, his other sons returned to Athens and drove out the sons of Metion , putting Aegeus on the throne. Some scholars believe that Pandion II was a figure invented to fill a gap in the chronology of Athens mythical rulers. Pausanias geographer Pausanias calls him the father of Procne and Philomela , who are the daughters of Pandion I , which provides some support for this view. for the Turkish city Aegea city Aegea is a back formation from Aegean Sea Aegean , the sea that was named for an eponym ous Aegeus in early levels of Greek mythology . The Encyclopaedia Britannica 1911 mentioned an Aegea, queen of the Amazons, as an alternative eponym of the Aegean Sea, and Aegea was the name of the wife of the Roman proconsul of Achaia whom the apostle Andrew converted and baptised, according to Jacob de Voragine s Golden Legend , De Sancto Andrea Apostolo. Aegea is found in modern baby name books and carried by some contemporary women. Modern Italian has the adjective Egea Aegean , but Latin language Classical Latin had none. Modern botanical Latin sometimes uses the species specific epithet aegea to mean of the Aegean . Modern usages include Aegea as a Turkish socio geographic term for the Aegean basin and the nations around it, as in zmir , pearl of Aegea. Geologists also use Aegea to describe the fragmentary rotating crustal block that supports mainland Greece and the Aegean basin, as a parallel to Anatolia . This block is rotating counter clockwise and is being strongly subducted into a line of trenches south of Crete . The ancient city of Aegea is the modern Turkish Ayas city Ayas . Near another city called Aegea, in Euboea , Poseidon had his watery palace.
