Buxton was the son of Sir Edward Buxton, 2nd Baronet , and the grandson of the anti slavery campaigner Sir Thomas Buxton, 1st Baronet . His mother was Catherine, daughter of Samuel Gurney , while Sir Thomas Buxton, 3rd Baronet , was his elder brother, Charles Buxton his uncle, Noel Noel Buxton, 1st Baron Noel Buxton , his nephew and Sydney Buxton, 1st Earl Buxton , his first cousin. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge , graduating Bachelor of Arts B.A. in 1869 before training for the bar at Lincoln s Inn . ref Venn id BKSN864FW name Buxton, Francis William ref Called to the Bar in 1874, he became a partner in the London banking firm of Prescott and Company. Buxton was the son of Reverend Barclay Fowell Buxton Barclay Buxton , a missionary who co founded the Japan Evangelical Band, and Margaret Maria Amelia Railton. He was the great grandson of Sir Thomas Buxton, 1st Baronet the abolitionist and social reformer. He was educated at Repton School , and Trinity College, Cambridge . In World War I , he fought in the Duke of Wellington s Regiment , gaining the rank of Captain. When a shell fell on his billet, he was severely wounded with shrapnel damage to both legs.
