Born to a Dutch people Dutch immigrant , Robert Cornelius attended private school as a youth, taking a particular interest in chemistry . In 1831, he began working for his father specializing in silver plating and metal polishing. He became so well renowned for his work, that shortly after, Cornelius was approached by Joseph Saxton to create a silver plate for his daguerreotype of Central High School Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Central High School in Philadelphia . It was this meeting that sparked Cornelius interest in photography. With his own knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy , as well as the help of chemist Paul Beck Goddard , Cornelius attempted to perfect the daguerreotype . Around October 1839, Cornelius took a portrait of himself outside of the family store. The daguerreotype produced shows an off center portrait of a man with crossed arms and tousled hair. Edward Corky Cornelius December 3, 1914 August 3, 1943 was an American jazz trumpeter. Cornelius s father was a drummer who worked regionally in dance bands in Texas . He was born in Indiana and raised in Binghamton, New York , and began his career in the early 1930s, played with Les Brown bandleader Les Brown , Frank Dailey , and Charles Rogers actor Buddy Rogers . He joined Benny Goodman s band early in 1939, and went with Gene Krupa when the drummer split off to form his own group. While there, Cornelius met singer Irene Daye , whom he married soon after. He played with the Casa Loma Orchestra from 1941 until 1943, when he died suddenly of kidney failure . In 1894, he habilitation habilitated in philosophy and subsequently held a post in philosophy at the University of Munich until 1903 as a Privatdozent . In 1910, Cornelius moved as a full professor to the Akademie f r Sozialwissenschaften , which four years later would become a department of the newly founded Goethe University Frankfurt University of Frankfurt .
