John Wakeman died 1549 was an English Benedictine , the last Abbot of Tewkesbury and first Bishop of Gloucester , both posts in the England English county of Gloucestershire . In the earlier part of his life he went by the name John Wiche . Life He was the second son of William Wakeman of Drayton , Worcestershire . He supplicated in the name of John Wyche, for the degree of B.D. on 3 February 1511. On 19 March 1534 a cong d lire was issued for the election of an abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Tewkesbury to replace Henry Beeley, deceased. On 27 April 1534 the royal assent was given to the election of John Wiche, late prior, as abbot. The temporalities were restored on 10 June. William Frederick Wakeman was an Irish archaeologist, initially producing works as an artist and then as an author. Life W. F. Wakeman was born in Dublin, 1822. His father was a publisher. A student of George Petrie , Wakeman produced sketches of land features and antiquities while employed by the Ordnance Survey . The works of this period are held by the Royal Irish Academy . His works were in pen and pencil. After the closing of the topographical department of the Survey, he took teaching roles at St. Columba s College in County Meath and Portora Royal School in Enniskillen . He eventually abandoned a career in art to pursue his interest in archaeology .
