Cruise 1323 call sign 5DN is one of Adelaide s longest running radio stations. In its 80 years it has changed considerably. It was the first commercial station to begin broadcasting in South Australia . History Radio 5DN began operating as an experimental station in 1924, with official services beginning on 24 February 1925. It began as the hobby of businessman and industrialist Ernest James Hume, but soon grew to absorb the time and energy of the Hume family. Hume bought his transmitter, and some other equipment from radio pioneer Lance Jones. The purchase included the original call sign 5Don N , which had been allocated to Jones in 1923. The origin of that call sign has been lost in the mists of time, but it may be the result of an early spelling alphabet A for Arthur, C for Charlie, D for Don, etc. . The transmitter and studios were set up in the Hume family mansion, Peltonga, on Greenhill Road , in the suburb of Parkside, South Australia . Hume installed landlines from the Elder Conservatorium and Adelaide University , allowing live broadcasts of concerts and lectures. The original voice of 5Don N was E.J. Hume s wife Stella. As well as being an announcer, she also acted as program organiser, studio director, technical operator, pianist and producer. Initially, 5DN broadcast only a few hours a day, three days a week, but as the number of listeners grew, broadcasting hours were extended until it became a full time 24 hours a day radio station. 5DN was one of the original members ... station was without an identity. The Peasant revolt in Flanders 1323 1328 was a popular revolt in late medieval Europe . Beginning as a series of scattered rural riots in late 1323 , peasant insurrection escalated into a full scale rebellion that dominated public affairs in Flanders for nearly five years until 1328 . The uprising in Flanders was caused by both excessive taxations levied by the Count of Flanders Louis I of Flanders Louis I , and by his pro French policies. The insurrection had urban leaders and rural factions which took over most of Flanders by 1325. The revolt was led by Nicolaas Zannekin , a rich farmer from Lampernisse . Zannekin and his men captured the towns of Nieuwpoort, Belgium Nieuwpoort , Veurne , Ieper and Kortrijk . In Kortrijk, Zannekin was able to capture the count himself. In 1325 attempts to capture Ghent Gent and Oudenaarde failed and the King of France, Charles IV of France Charles IV intervened whereupon Louis was released from captivity in February 1326 and the Peace of Arques was sealed. The peace didn t last long and soon hostilities erupted again which made the count flee to France. Louis was able to convince his new liege Philip VI of France to come to his aid and Zannekin and his adherents were decisively defeated by the French royal army in the Battle of Cassel 1328 Battle of Cassel .
