Upon its founding its goal was to revive the Zeta Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon of Centenary College of Louisiana , formerly of Jackson, Louisiana . The chapter had closed its doors at the outbreak of the American Civil War , when all of its members enlisted. The Friars were successful on campus in areas of academia, athletics, and social activities. They petitioned Delta Kappa Epsilon for the restoration of the Zeta Zeta Chapter for fifteen years, which was finally granted in 1923. Aside from their obvious affiliation with Zeta Zeta, little is known about the Friars or their rituals. Their symbol is the coffin with a skull and cross bones above it, and their colors black and burnt orange. The Crutched Friars or Crossed Friars were a Roman Catholic religious order of Augustinians Augustinian canon priest canon s who went to England in the 13th century from Italy , where they existed for some time, and where they were called Fratres Cruciferi . ref cite book last Gwynn first Aubrey coauthors R. They observed the Augustinians Rule of St. Augustine and their religious habit habit was originally brown or black, but later on changed to blue by Pope Pius II . They established eight or nine houses in England, the first being at either Colchester according to William Dugdale Dugdale , or at Reigate according to Clement Reyner Reyner , founded in 1245.
