Refshale en is an island in Copenhagen s harbor, which until 1996 housed the shipyard Burmeister & Wain . At its height, the shipyard employed 8,000 employees, and so appears as an icon of Danish industrial history. A portion of the island is reclaimed in the 1870s when the port s waterways were made deeper. Site surface area is approx. 500,000 sqm.
